Challenge

During a change-over, feeders are put into the mounting system manually. Human error must be avoided, since a mishap can lead to massively defective products, thus a reliable check is required. Besides efficient production and quality management, the information of each feeder, such as type number, remaining amount of chips and the usage history of the feeder itself, should be managed centrally and locally.

Solution

Omron offers compact RFID tags that can communicate with antennas at high speed. After obtaining each feeder ID Number, it can be written to an RFID tag embedded in the feeders. The mounting system can automatically read each feeder’s ID and read the information attached to it. Moreover, the information of each feeder can be made visible locally with a handheld reader/writer.
