Detection of drill breakage
Challenge
Breakage of a drill causes not only defective products, but also serious damage to the equipment itself, therefore immediate detection is necessary.
Due to the mechanical structure, the sensor for detecting the drill cannot be placed close to drill. Furthermore, the diameter of the drill can be quite small.
Solution
Omron offers various solutions:
- For detecting a small drill from a long distance: small spot laser beam sensors
- For detecting in a wet or chemical environment: PTFE covered photo sensors
- For measuring drill wear: screen beam laser sensor
